Welcome to Jon West Horselogging

Member of the British Horse Loggers Association

Thor

With over fifteen years of experience in the forest industry and finding myself becoming more and more disillusioned with the mess and damage caused by mechanical harvesting methods I started Jon West Horse Logging. Although this site is initially something of a brochure for my work I am hoping it will grow into a general horse logging site which will appeal to any visitors with an interest in working horses as well as horseloggers and foresters.

For the last five years I have been involved with a major project on The Hafod Estate situated in the Ystwyth Valley in West Wales. This project is to return a large coniferous wood to a native broadleaf woodland and to restore as much as possible the origional walks and view points that feature on this 18th century estate.
Where the terrain allows modern Scandinavian logging equipment ( Ulvins Kombi-Drag and Ulvins Timber Arch ) is used to reduce ground disturbance to the absolute minimum and on the banks that are too steep to use shafted equipment the trees are extracted pole length using conventional skidding techniques.
To find out more about this historic estate go to the Harness Room links page and check out the Hafod Estate links .

For further information on my availability for work, how using horses for harvesting operations can benefit your wood in the West Wales area and to find out the full range of services that Jon West Horse Logging can offer please send mail to jon@jonwest-horselogging.co.uk
